Daily Open Carry Journal - KoruptLet sleeping dogs lie.
That's what I keep hearing about open carrying regularly. A lot of people think it is best if we don't scare the sheep. They don't want gun buster signs springing up at more places.
The problem is that these dogs aren't sleeping. For every day that goes by, the media, anti-gunners, friends, and family of alot of people are influencing them negatively about firearms. They are not informed about law-abiding citizens carrying guns. The police hardly see it, so it's a big deal(and sometimes a big hassle for us).
Open Carry is a right. It should not be looked on as scary, crazy, or criminal.
Many people here don't know me, I have only been registered here a few months. My name is John. I live in Colerain, Ohio (just outside, NW of Cincinnati) I am 23 years old. I'm about 6'4 230. I'm a blue collar, t-shirt and jeans guy.
I Open Carry everywhere legal. I thought I'd post a daily report to show everybody the places that I open carry and any reaction from the public.
I carry concealed at work because of the job I do, the gun would get really dirty, greasy, and scratched up if exposed on my hip.

Went to school, gave a copy of the Concealed Carry booklet to the guy I mentioned on 5/15. He was excited about it. I hope he reads it thoroughly. He told me how his parents were very anti-gun. I felt sorry for him. I believe all parents should, at the very least, show proper firearm handling.

I go to college in the morning on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This morning I was waiting outside the classroom. I usually get there early in case there is heavy traffic. Today one of my classmates was talking to me about background checks. He had to have his because he had a juvenile misdemeanor assault charge and the EMT board required a copy to process his certification application. I didn't bring it up, but he got into talking about how he hoped it didn't disqualify him from getting a gun and his CHL, as he was turning 21 next month. I told him that he would need to check the actual law because I wasn't sure, but as long as it had been over 5 years ago, I thought he would be ok. I told him he should check it out before he paid for the class. He said "I'm sure they'll run the background check before they let me take the class" I quickly corrected him. Next, we were talking about open carry and he said " but if I don't have a license, if i get pulled over, I'll have to put my gun on the dashboard or on the seat in the open". I told him that if he gets pulled over, that he shouldn't even think about even touching the firearm, that could get him arrested at the very least. I am going to try to educate him a little more about firearms and CCW, take him to the range. He has only shot friend's firearms and i don't think he's ready yet to carry.

Had a good Sunday, I finally sold a car I had sitting in my driveway. Cleaned out my change jar, rolled some coins.
Went to Meijer to put the cash in my U.S. Bank account, but I was 25 minutes too late, forgot the bank closed at 5pm there. No problem, picked up a couple of steaks, some chips, and salsa. Only the few young employees that were talking to each other, at the express lanes area, paid much attention to my sidearm.
Then went to the lil goodie shop. I think that's what it's called. It's an ice cream shop just down from ivey's pub(biker bar). The place was packed. Everyone there noticed because after i ordered, i stepped to the right of line and leaned my right side (i'm left handed) against the wall. I know that everyone saw it. No one did anything abnormal, except for one woman, she looked to be in her late 40s. She turned to her husband, and started whispering something to him. He seemed to not pay much attention to her. He didn't look at her while she talked. When they got their food, they sat down a picnic bench away from us, so she must not have been too bothered by the gun.
On a side note: I am left handed and I am getting tired of this nylon ambidextrous holster. I am looking for a left handed, leather, belt holster, that fits a Browning HP and a 1 1/2 inch belt. I'd like it to hold the gun at about 1 o'clock. If anyone can help, thank you.

4/21
I did a lot of OCing today.
Went to the Wendy's. It was noon and the drive through line was to the road, so I went inside. Just about everyone in line behind me noticed. Got some double-takes but no akward stares.
Then, Went to Walgreens for Girlfriend to return a curling iron. Only the cashier noticed.
After that, went to the mall, so I had to leave it in the car.
Next, went to Target, Girlfriend had to return something else. Target is messed up because to return an item you buy online, you have to use a computer at their store to print off a receipt and then take the receipt up to the customer service desk. Of course the computers were having trouble printing Rolling Eyes . There were a lot of people there very upset because the Customer Service people had no clue how to work the computers. After about 30 minutes, the computers were working again. I showed a lot of people that law-abiding armed citizens are level-headed in tense situations. (a lot of people were directing their anger at the Target employees, while my girlfriend and I were working towards a solution.) Everyone in the customer service area saw that I was armed. It was never mentioned, though.
After target, we stopped at a local store, Engel's, to pick up some pop. 2 patrons and 1 cashier noticed, they were all older men. No one mentioned it or stared.
We went home, ate dinner, then went out at about 9 for ice cream. We went to the Zip Dip on Harrison. It was pretty packed, about 10 people in line, 20-30 around the lot eating their ice cream. About 10 or so people saw my sidearm. Most people looked at it for a second, then went about their business. One older guy, about 45 and yuppie looking, stared at me just about the whole time I was eating. He looked more bored with his own party(his wife/girlfriend and another couple) than uncomfortable with my presence.
More tomorrow...

4/20
After work, O/C'd at the gas station, 2 guys across from me saw, and the 2 clerks saw. The clerks stared a little longer than normal, no one said anything though.
After dinner at the China Buffet(yeah, my favorite place to eat), I O/C'd at another gas station, for g/f's car. It was about 10pm, only two other people there, neither saw.

Started back to school today. I wish our society was not so naive as to think criminals obey gun laws. Once sheep come to their senses and we get rid of criminal protection zones, I will open carry to class. I'm not holding my breath though.
Went to work after class, then went home.
I only got to OC in the car today Rolling Eyes
I plan on going to a lot of places this weekend while open carrying ...stay tuned.

4/18
I didn't do much OCing today.
After I got off work, i switched to open carry. I was In the tri-county area and stopped by Jarrod Jewelers. I did a slow roll by to check for gunbuster signs. I didn't see any, so I parked and got out. As I was walking up to the door, there was a white text paragraph on the window to the left of the door. It took a second to read, with the light hitting it, but it mentioned no firearms. I turned around and went back to my vehicle and left. I'm so used to gunbuster signs that have little pictures of guns with lines through them, that I almost walked by without reading the paragraph.
That little paragraph is costing them more money than they know.

Started off OCing early in the morning. I went to to the bank's outside ATM before work. The bank wasn't open and no one was there. Besides possibly a few passing cars, I doubt anyone saw.
After the ATM, I stopped down the street at the gas station. There were about 4-5 vehicles getting gas. The guy on the other side of the pump and the guy in front of me noticed. The guy across didn't do anymore than a second look. The guy that was in front of me watched me as I went inside. I don't think the two attendants, a male and a female, noticed. I didn't see them look at my hip, so i'm guessing they didn't. The guy that was in front of me was looking at me when I came out, but he went back about his business as I walked to my truck. I guess since he didn't see me running out, it confirmed I was a regular customer.
After work I stopped to have my oil changed. It was one of those places where you just pull up to the garage door and they guide you in. There were two guys working there, one early 20s, one mid 40s. I got out and walked in to their little waiting room to use the bathroom. I'm not sure the younger guy noticed, the older guy was under the truck. After I had gotten back from the bathroom, the older guy asked me how much air I wanted in each tire. I couldn't remember the pressure requirement for my tires, so the guy said it's right here on the inside of the door frame. Note: I am left handed, therefor my holster is on the left side... He knelt down as he was opening the door and, before he knew it, his head was about a foot from my gun. He saw it, and then looked over at the door frame for the pressure, like the gun wasn't even an issue, and went on to air the tires. Neither guy mentioned the gun. I'm sure they talked about it after I was gone, but that is one of the reasons I open carry.
...A law abiding young man, going about his regular business.

Nothing really interesting happened today. Went to work, came home. Went to the girlfriend's house for dinner. Over dinner we were talking about the shootings at VA. Tech, and of course I mentioned that if they allowed CCW on campus then the situation most likely would have ended with less victims. She countered saying that then anyone could just run around with a gun. I said anyone can run around with a gun now. The law just stops those who abide it. She agreed. ...Guns don't kill people!
Thats the only place I OC'd today.
------------------------------------------------------------
4/15
1st place i went was Meijer. Went to the US Bank inside Meijer. Deposited my paycheck and then shopped a little with my girlfriend. I'm sure a few people noticed, no weird looks and no one said anything.
After that, went to Putz's for footlong coneys, about 6 or 7 people in line. Surprising for such a cold/windy day. An old couple and a young college looking guy noticed, no one said anything.
Went to Blockbuster, got a movie, no one at all noticed.
Went to girlfriend's dad's car repair shop. Her dad is very pro-gun, but doesn't carry. We we're sitting in the office bullshitting, and he looked at my gun and said "You carry that thing with the hammer back?" I explained to him that it was SA and the best way to carry is "cocked and locked" He asked why i couldn't just pull the trigger as I drew. I told him that heaven forbid i had to use it, i wanted to get a bullet out of the gun as fast as possible. He seemed to get it then.
He asked me to get him something from the Family Dollar that was next door. I went there and stood outside for a second, because i had to read all 20 of their signs posted outside their door. Didn't see a gunbuster so I went in. A guy in his mid-30s, with his young son, noticed while in line, but didn't say anything.

4/12 - added by request
after work, went to meeting a few of us had about OC.
I left the meeting and switched to OC, I noticed I was getting low on gas when I got on 75, so I stopped at the monroe exit and went to Speedway to fill up. When I got done, I went inside to get a coke for the drive home.
It was pretty crowded for a gas station, about 12 or so people inside.
While I was at the register, I saw a young guy, in his early 20's, about my age, a few people back, look down at my gun.
Young Guy: "Hey, man" (I looked back at him) "Is that an Arcus?"
Me: "Yeah, it's an Arcus 94C"
Young Guy: "That's cool, i've got that same gun"
ME: "You get it over there at AIM Surplus?"
Young Guy: "No, I got it at **I can't remember the name of the shop he said**"
Me: "Oh, ok. I Love mine, It's a really reliable gun"
Young Guy: "Yeah it is, You get the 10 or 13 round clip?"
Me: "I got the 17 round clip in it now"
Young Guy: " oh, cool"
At this point in the conversation, I had just signed my credit card receipt, and I looked up and noticed all 5 or 6 people in line we're staring at my hip. No one had any angry or scared looks on their faces. They just seemed that they were interested in the conversation we were having, since we were the only ones in line talking. I took my drink and walked out.
