Quote:
Based on the narrow scenario described in your questions, you would likely not be subject
to arrest under any city ordinance in the City of Springboro. Although as a matter of
practicality, it is very difficult to carry a weapon in an open holster for any length of
time where your movement i.e. moving into and out of a vehicle, store, business, or other
activity does not conceal the weapon at times from a casual observer, subjecting yourself
to the restriction against carring a weapon concealed.
Since any futher speculation regarding the senario described in your question is an issue
of legal interpretation, I would encourage you to forward your questions to an attorney
before you make an effort to self define whether your actions are legal or illegal.

I wonder what his view is now.......................??
Has anyone else read this info over at Glocktalk??
Appears to be 2003..........One of the posters on the second page listed a link to some e-mails and responses that was sent out to variuos police chiefs in the area.................
Well, the same guy is still chief, if the city's website is up-to-date. Can't imagine that his opinion is really as relevant as the local prosecutor's would be on the subject.
Besides, now that the whole 'car carry' issue is moot for CHLers it wouldn't matter how many times your OC gun accidentally got covered up. For those without a license I guess one's open carry would have to be done in a way that the chief's 'what-if' didn't come to pass. Heck it's been my intention to keep my carry firearm deliberately concealed at all times, and even when using a Beretta 92 or Glock 20 in warm weather I have succeeded. So if my goal was to do the opposite and keep it NOT hidden, that shouldn't be any harder to accomplish, just go OWB at all times and during cold weather, never wear a cover garment that drapes below your waistline.

I give up..........................................
Ok..............Nothing you said, Just my point at one time while talking with korupt about his journal and open carrying............I don't think open carrying with CHL is a true test on the LE end of it...sure with the sheep the point is drove home. But say you encounter a LEO with the same opinion as this Springboro Chief of police, then you just produce your CHL and the encounter is over. Where someone without a CHL who is truly open carrying can possibly be detained and run in.
What is next ?Can't open carry at night because the darkness will conceal your weapon.....
These are ppl in postions that can ruin a person's life over a "what if"
Being content with CHL will enable them to abolish open carry if we are not careful.........
Well I see your point, I'm just thinking that this police chief, and virtually all LEOs here in Ohio--would have seen the light on this topic by now.
Here's my nitty gritty about open carry: Of course it should be legal everyplace in the US and invoke no stigma to practice. Wish the pendulum would swing back in that direction, just doesn't seem like it ever will. But, I've been wrong about societal trends before.
That said I just don't practice open carry much for several reasons. First and foremost is keeping the gun away from various nutjobs and other miscreants that seemingly abound in urban areas. Plus dealing with the mouthy sheeple who would see the thing if I stayed in one spot too long, and cause a verbal dust-up. (I realize that sort of thing doesn't appear to happen to Korupt, but perhaps I get out and about a bunch more than he does.)
My twice or thrice weekly trips to Walnut Street in downtown Cincy always bring me within handshake distance of a couple people--minimum--who should be institutionalized. Wouldn't go down there without using some kind of retention device on an open carry holster, along with regular refreshers on warding off gun grabs.
Sorry to digress there, Splat, but it's not like it's anybody here but you and me and the tumbleweeds...
