It's just a topic title. Personally I figure that some sort of active or passive retention device is needed with a holster during open carry, much more so than when the firearm is concealed. But since my typical day only involves concealed carry, haven't looked into those gizmos much.

Also (and perhaps this is another topic unto itself) before I'd do much open carrying amongst the general public, some more training on firearm retention against a gun grab attempt, would be on my to-do list. What say the rest of you?

Yes, there should be training done to prevent a gun grab. Also, a concealed back-up gun on your weakside, if you're not so physically inclined.

Retention training.............None.

I try to stay aware of my surroundings and not allow ppl close enough, but sometimes you find yourself in a crowd and they get too close for comfort. Reach down and slide my holster forward to where my arm is blocking from the rear........Or in worse case untuck and cover with shirt.
And if I know before hand that the crowd may be excessive or high risk I will switch the holster to crossdraw position, which allows for strong use of knife....... I believe the gun is more secure this way (Crossdraw)

Was reading a news article the other day about a baliff having to fight to keep his gun............From what I gathered they are trained to hold onto the gun with both hands until help arrives. What if help never arrives??

I've got some retention training, but, for OC, PERSONALLY, I'd really rather have a nice solid leather rig, with a nice solid retention device...
