I was at the Upper Valley Mall in Springfield for the first time yesterday. I did not see any NG Signs when I entered. I stopped at a couple of stores, EB Games, Walden Books and Penney’s looking for items I need.
When I got towards the middle of the mall I stopped at the ATM machine to get some cash. That’s when I was approached by a mall security officer. He approached me in a very professional manner, he advised me of the malls no open firearms policy. He then told me I would have to return my weapon to my vehicle if I wanted to continue to shop.
Now I want to make one thing clear…. At no time did he give me the impression I was going to be detained, banned or ridden out of town on a rail.<G> He simply told me the mall didn’t allow it and I needed to return it to my vehicle.
I obliged and asked him which entrance he wanted me to return to my vehicle by. He said the way I came in was fine and that he would escort me out so that I wouldn’t have any problems with customers or any other security personnel.
We had a nice chat about firearms on the way out and when we got to the exit he thanked me for being understanding and for making his job easier. I thanked him for his professionalism and courtesy and left the mall at that time.
I called their Director of Security, Mark Fent today and he told me he was aware of the encounter and was glad I was happy with the way it went down. I told him I understand, I didn’t necessarily agree with the policy but would respect the wishes of the mall. But thanked him again for the appropriated manner in which it was handled.
So all in all this was a good encounter in respects to both parties.

Well the security officer told me that the malls policy was for open carry. I usually don't shop there anyway. I was just killing time while I waited on my son to get off work. So I probably won't return, but if I did I would conceal.
How can they dictate whether you open carry or conceal carry your handgun?? I thought either no guns or guns allowed was the option, actually that encounter was a true violation of your rights........Open carry is a right.........Unlike CC according to Ohio law .
Does that mean I can post a sign on my business saying no concealed carry, only open carrying of firearms allowed ?
Well Splat.. from my understanding of the law. The owners of the business or owners of the property can allow or disallow whatever they want when it comes to weapons in their business or on their property.
So if they feel they don't want you OC'ing but CC'ing is okay, so that you won't scare the Sheeple, the law as it is currently written, as I understand it, allows them to do so.
The Old'e English Gun Shop in Vandalia,OH doesn't allow OC'ng either, but you can CC without a problem.
Is it a right that they can violate my "Right", NO.. If these stores where placing signs on their doors that said... NO BLACKS, or NO JEWS, or NO PEACEABLE ASSEMBLY, or any thing else that the Bill of Rights covers. The Civil Rights groups would be all over them. But I guess because we live in a free society. Civil rights groups can pick and choose which "Rights" they think we should enforce.
That's why I started this group. We need people to change this. So try to get involved with us. Check the main page for our next meeting date and try to come to it.
Well................If that is the case, then we could learn from the ACLU's tactics. It is easy to post a sign and write a rule. Just how willing are they to defend that decision with money and lawyers................city and government buildings included..........To effect change quickly, someone has to feel pain.......
Money and Lawyers ...........Just a expensive tool also, takes tools to do the job.

I can post, if I really wanted to "NO BERSAS!" at the door. I could probably have someone charged with trespass, if I found that they were carrying a Bersa... It'd be stupid and pointless, but, hey, it's a free country!
There is a hotel by me, that I've had to deliver to before, with literally just a revolver, in a red circle with the slash thru it. No ORC sign, nothing that says 'No Guns' just a VERY clear and detailed picture of a revolver.
I assume, they are concerned with the lack of external safeties on most revolvers, that, or, the firing pin resting on the primer, in some older models, or, maybe they're just concerned, that I have enough firepower immediately available to me, should anything bad happen.
