Took me awhile to get onboard with the idea--and still don't always do it in broad daylight if there's NO chance I'll be going inside--but now a 6V Surefire or inexpensive copy come along for the ride everyday.

Just a heads-up and a thread bump. Those 3 volt lithium batteries don't give you much warning before they give out. If your choice of light uses those, keep a supply of spares in stock.

Mine's by Dorcy or something...

$15 or so at wally world. Uses 3 AAA's, about the size of a surefire, solid metal, and, waterproof... I love it! Smile SUPER bright!

Yeah, Wally's has several less expensive options. Not a bad thing since when I carry around a flashlight all the time, it gets dropped occasionally. Try to avoid doing that with the uber super duper tactical Surefires. They get the cool ads with SWAT and other High Speed Low Drag operators deploying them, but a four foot fall onto anything but shag carpet is even money to break the bulbs on several models.

Hence your choice without the lithium has another advantage besides price point.

I carry a Brinkman Maxfire from Wal Mart. I started carrying the this light over the winter, but do have a mini maglite I carried for years. I can say that having a flashlight in a large building when the lights go out can really help.

Got into the flashlight totin' habit long ago. Having worked a little in the motel biz, came to realize that some backup lighting would be a good idea when on the road.
